Pulmonary Embolism
Pulmonary Embolism (PE) and Deep Venous Thrombosis (DVT)
As many as 900,000 Americans per year are potentially affected by blood clots in the legs (DVT) or lungs (PE, or Pulmonary Embolism), with an estimated 50-100,000 deaths per year. Anywhere from 25% to 33% of patients present with sudden cardiac arrest (CDC: Data and Statistics on Venous Thromboembolism | CDC).
Dr. Agrawal is fellowship-trained and board certified in advanced vascular intervention, and offers acute care for DVT and PE clot removal, or thrombectomy, treatment. This involves close communication with Emergency Physicians, early activation of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, skilled and expert intervention with the latest devices to remove clots, and finally thoughtful and close attention to the post procedural care in our inpatient beds.
With PE thrombectomy, many patients benefit from immediate improvement in lung pressure, right heart function (RV function), improved breathing, and overall early recovery from this grave illness. In the picture below, the schematic shows the actual clot removed by Dr. Agrawal from the right and left lung arteries in a matter of minutes upon arrival to the cath lab, with the numbers above stating the overall improvement (reduction) in the lung pressures after clot removal.
